DAYTONA BEACH, Florida . January 27 . On the eve of the first official practice session for the 48 th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, several of the Porsche customer teams were involved with fun and important activities other than motor racing.
Through the streets of Jacksonville
Yesterday, in their hometown of Jacksonville, Brumos Racing decided to try something different, driving vintage Brumos Racing cars on the streets with a couple members of the media and one longtime Rolex 24 fan. The unique media event, designed to promote this weekend.s Rolex 24, created an unusual scene for motorists. Brumos Executive Vice President Hurley Haywood led the pack in his No.43 Ecurie Escargot Porsche Carrera RSR that he drove to victory in 1977 at the Rolex 24.
Last year.s Rolex 24 winners Darren Law and David Donohue followed in two other Brumos Racing vintage cars, the No. 59 Porsche 914 Haywood and Peter Gregg drove to their first IMSA Camel GT Championship in 1971 and the No. 59 Porsche 911S IMSA Championship car driven by Haywood and Gregg in 1972.
It was really cool because I could see all the people on the side of the road waving and cheering us on, said Law, who had longtime Rolex 24 ticket holder Guy Marvin, who will be attending his 36 th Rolex 24 this year, in the passenger seat.
